In 1985, turned down graduate theater study at Boston University to join Red Eye Collaboration, an interdisciplinary, experimental theater company in Minneapolis devoted to original work. Collaborated as performer, composer, musician, writer and/or director on the creation of 15 original music/theater works, as well as new productions of the works of Lee Breuer and Mabou Mines. Made seminal use of digital animation in a new staging of Breuer’s The B. Beaver Animation. Conceived Bluefish Sonata, a concert retrospective of Red Eye’s repertoire. Collaborated with Mark Amdahl, Michael O’Sullivan and the Company on Pornografia, a theater piece with original film and music based on the Witold Gombrowicz novel. |

In 1980, began studying theater and music at the University of Minnesota, and soon concentrated exclusively on the development of new work: created a student playwriting festival that continues today; became the first undergraduate to direct in the regular season, staging and composing music for two original plays which both received playwriting awards. Received commendations and scholarships for leadership and excellence. Graduated 1984 [B.A. with Honors, Theater Arts]. |
